The third annual Festival in Motion will be held on Saturday September 28 along the Walnut Creek Greenway. Activities begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center, 950 Peterson St. It’s a weatherproof event.

Start your day of fun and adventure with nature at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Then visit the tent stations along the Walnut Creek Greenway for live music, arts activities, games, food trucks and interactive displays for the whole family. Make your way around the circuit with fitness challenges, a disc golf demo course, live animals, and a host of other nature-related activities. Or, just relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the Center and the Greenway.

Be part of the Photo Contest to capture the event and Walnut Creek’s environs. It will focus on: people, landscapes, plants, animals, historic features and water. For more information, visit http://festivalinmotion.com/blog.

The Festival in Motion celebrates the transformation by the City of Raleigh of more than 50 acres of formerly polluted urban wetlands to the beautiful Walnut Creek Greenway. The greenway has more than seven miles of trails running from Lake Johnson through the North Carolina State University Centennial Campus, passing near Downtown Raleigh and historic neighborhoods, all the way to where it joins the Neuse River.

The Festival goal is to promote understanding and protection of the unique features of Walnut Creek and the adjacent lands and neighborhoods. It showcases the importance of nature in our daily lives and is designed to get people outside and walking, bike, running or just relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of the Walnut Creek Greenway.

The Festival was organized by the Triangle Greenways Council, Partners for Environmental Justice, Friends of Lake Johnson and the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. It is supported by donations from generous individuals and corporate sponsors.
